MESA, Ariz. -- Right-hander Henderson Alvarez has passed every rehab test with ease, on Tuesday completing a 25-pitch bullpen session in front of A's brass.
"Everything was great," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "It's all fastballs right now, but we like what we're seeing. It's just making sure we don't try to rush him, because we feel like he's going to have a big impact for us, but he looked good.
"He's got a little bit of deception to him, good life on his fastball, and until he's throwing all of his pitches and so forth, it's still just about making sure his arm strength is there and making sure he's healthy along the way."

Alvarez, who underwent shoulder surgery in July, is expected to throw another bullpen session Saturday. He said earlier this spring he hoped to be pitching in Minor League games by April and join the A's rotation the following month.
Melvin said Tuesday there's a "good chance" Alvarez travels with the A's back home when camp closes rather than remain in Arizona for extended spring training, but a decision has not yet been made on which route they'll take with him.

• Mark Canha (back stiffness) took part in workouts on Tuesday, but "we still have to get him to run the bases, and there's some other things he has to do" before he's cleared for game activity, Melvin said. Canha is still considered several days away from making his Cactus League debut.
