OAKLAND -- Matt Olson's historic second-half home run tear helped the A's first baseman pick up some American League Rookie of the Year votes.
The 23-year-old Olson, who totaled 24 home runs and 45 RBIs in 59 games, including 16 homers in a 23-game stretch from Aug. 27-Sept. 22, was awarded a second-place vote and a pair of third-place votes, tying for fourth overall with Houston's Yuli Gurriel in voting done by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The Yankees' Aaron Judge, who mashed 52 home runs in 155 games, was the unanimous winner. Andrew Benintendi of the Red Sox finished second, while Baltimore's Trey Mancini came in third.
That Olson was even in the same conversation as them, despite playing in fewer than 60 games, largely speaks to the big impact he made in little time. After hitting just four home runs over 19 games from April to July, spending the majority of that stretch with Triple-A Nashville, Olson returned for good on Aug. 8 following the trade of Yonder Alonso and caught fire at the plate.
Olson's 24 home runs were third-most in A's history by a rookie and the most since Mark McGwire slugged 49 in 1987. Olson averaged 7.88 at-bats per home run, which was fourth-fewest in Major League history among players with a minimum of 200 plate appearances.
