TAMPA, Fla. -- Successful 2016 seasons for a pair of Yankees Minor Leaguers were rewarded on Saturday.
The club announced that outfielder Aaron Judge and right-handed pitcher Chance Adams were named the Kevin Lawn Award winners, given to the organization's top position player and pitcher for the prior season.
Past award winners include a number of New York All-Stars, including Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly and Andy Pettitte.
Judge played in 93 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before being called up to the big league club in August. The No. 45-ranked overall prospect by MLBPipeline.com, Judge was fourth in the International League in home runs and second in RBIs at the time of his call to the big leagues. In all, he hit .270 with a .489 slugging percentage and 19 roundtrippers for the RailRiders.
Judge is also hoping that success from last season, as well as a strong Spring Training in which he has hit .300 in 50 at-bats will translate into an Opening Day roster spot. Judge and Aaron Hicks are currently competing to become the team's starting right fielder.

Adams, meanwhile, went 13-1 in 2016 with a 2.33 ERA, splitting time between Class A Advanced Tampa and Double-A Trenton. The 22-year-old struck out 144 batters in 127 1/3 innings overall, while putting up a 0.90 WHIP.
A fifth-round Draft pick in 2015, Adams is currently ranked the Yankees' No. 8 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, and is third among the organization's pitchers. Adams was originally a non-roster invite at the start of Spring Training, but was reassigned to Minor League camp on March 15.
