Ravenelle, Gerber named to Fall Stars Game

DETROIT -- While the Tigers begin their offseason quest to restock their Major League talent, they'll have a chance to watch prospect reliever Adam Ravenelle and outfielder Mike Gerber in the Arizona Fall League's Fall Stars Game on Saturday night.

The annual event, which airs live on MLB Network beginning at 8 p.m. ET, showcases some of the top talent in the league. It's not an All-Star Game based purely on performance; talent level and prospect status factor in as well.

Ravenelle, the Tigers' fourth-round pick in the 2014 Draft, ventured to Arizona after pitching 21 games in relief between the Gulf Coast League and Class A West Michigan, having struck out 41 batters over 38 1/3 innings while posting a 3.52 ERA. The 23-year-old right-hander entered Tuesday having allowed four runs on six hits over six AFL innings, walking three and striking out two. He ranks 25th on MLB.com's Tigers prospect list.

Infielder JaCoby Jones had been named to the East Division squad, but he will not participate after receiving a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Thursday after a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He was replaced by Gerber, 23, who is ranked as the Tigers' No. 18 prospect and has hit .298 (14-for-47) for Scottsdale with four doubles, two triples, a home run, 12 RBIs and a stolen base.
