Hechavarria hoping to be in lineup tonight

MIAMI -- A welcome sight was warming up at shortstop for Miami during batting practice on Monday at Marlins Park. Adeiny Hechavarria, who bruised his left shoulder on Friday, was fielding grounders and moving around as usual.

The plan is to give Hechavarria one more day of rest and get him back in the starting lineup on Tuesday in the second of three games against the Cubs. Donovan Solano made his third straight start at shortstop on Monday.

"I'm feeling good," said Hechavarria, who is batting .300 in 49 games.

The shortstop said he is able to get extension with his shoulder on his swing.

Hechavarria was shaken up after colliding with left fielder Christian Yelich in the ninth inning on Friday in Miami's 4-3 win over the Mets at Citi Field. He didn't play Saturday or Sunday.

"He went all through the pregame pre-[drills]," manager Dan Jennings said. "We're going to give him one more day, just precautionary. Let Solano stay at shortstop."

Pregame Monday, Mat Latos (left knee inflammation) threw a bullpen session. It was the right-hander's second time off the mound since going on the disabled list on May 23. The other was on Saturday.

"It was good to see Latos back on the mound, throwing again," Jennings said. "It looks like his knee is definitely feeling stronger. It's good to see him get in his work and start progressing towards the big leagues."

The Marlins have four starters on the disabled list. Jarred Cosart (vertigo) threw on Monday in an extended spring game in Jupiter, Fla. Cosart is scheduled to go on rehab assignment and start on Saturday, either at Triple-A New Orleans or Double-A Jacksonville.

Jose Fernandez (Tommy John surgery) threw 42 pitches, striking out seven in his impressive extended spring outing on Monday. Fernandez is set to begin his rehab assignment on Saturday with Class A Advanced Jupiter at Port Charlotte, Fla.
