Adrian leading Dodgers' charge on All-Star ballot

April 24th, 2016

DENVER -- First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is at it again with another quick start to the season, placing him among a group of worthy Dodgers listed on the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot, which was released on Sunday.
Gonzalez made the All-Star team last year for the fifth time. Other Dodgers on the ballot having outstanding Aprils include catcher Yasmani Grandal, right fielder Yasiel Puig and second baseman Chase Utley.

Grandal was an All-Star last year for the first time. Despite beginning this season on the disabled list with a strained right forearm, he's been on fire since being activated.
Puig, an All-Star in 2014, has turned a corner in his career. On the rebound from injuries the past two seasons, he is winning games with his bat, glove and throwing arm.

Utley, a six-time All-Star, has found the fountain of youth at 37. Pressed into regular duty by an injury to Howie Kendrick, Utley has been a leadoff catalyst and team leader.
Other Dodgers on the ballot are Kendrick, shortstop Corey Seager, third baseman Justin Turner and outfielder Joc Pederson.

The other side: Astros outfielder Colby Rasmus has begun 2016 like it will be the best year of his career, with an OPS 300 points above his career average.
Tip of the cap: It's easy to get lost in the shuffle playing in the same outfield as Giancarlo Stanton, but Christian Yelich just might add a batting title to the Gold Glove he's already won.
A rising star: Rockies shortstop Trevor Story has deservedly received early-season attention, but Houston's Tyler White has comparable offensive stats.
