LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez left Monday night's 7-6 loss to the Angels after five innings with lower back tightness. The club lists him day to day.
"I'll let you know tomorrow," Gonzalez said when asked if he believed the injury was serious.
Gonzalez was called out on strikes in a fifth inning at-bat. When the Dodgers took the field for the sixth, Howie Kendrick had moved from third base to first base and Justin Turner took over at third.
"After his at-bat where he punched out looking, he just said his back stiffened up, so at that point in time, I just wanted to take it out of his hands and get him out of the game," said manager Dave Roberts. "I've got to go in and talk about it. I don't know when it occurred, if it was on a swing. As I understand it now, it's day to day."
Gonzalez, 0-for-3 with two strikeouts on Monday, is batting .282 with four homers and 20 RBIs and has played in every Dodgers game this year. He did not take batting practice with the club before Monday's game.
