After crew review, Flowers' triple stands

CHICAGO -- A crew chief review in the third inning of the series opener between the Rangers and White Sox on Monday concluded that Tyler Flowers' hit to right field did not go over the wall for a home run.

After the on-field call was confirmed, Flowers stood at third with a one-out triple.

Manager Robin Ventura was not charged with a challenge, because the review was initiated by the umpires. A specific provision -- Section V, Article B -- was included in the MLB Replay Review Regulations for non-homer boundary plays such as the one on Monday.

Flowers scored on a two-run single by Jose Abreu three batters later, and he went on to get his homer in the fifth, belting a solo shot 376 feet to left to tie the score at 3.
