After feeling soreness, Black to undergo MRI

NEW YORK -- Mets general manager Sandy Alderson announced after Sunday's 7-6 victory over the Marlins, that reliever Vic Black is scheduled to undergo an MRI after complaining of soreness in his neck and shoulder region.

The Mets have not been able to pinpoint the exact issue with Black, who is on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. He tossed a scoreless inning and allowed one hit for Double-A Binghamton on Saturday, but his velocity was down, hovering around the upper 80s and low 90s.

New York was hoping to have Black return to its bullpen soon. Left-hander Jerry Blevins had been filling in as the setup man, but he is headed for the disabled list after fracturing his left forearm.

Black had completed three rehab outings and before Sunday's game, manager Terry Collins said he planned on positioning Black as the eighth-inning man once he was ready to return to the Majors. After this latest setback, however, it is not clear how far away that could be.

"We're going to have him looked at again," Alderson said. "I'm not sure what his status or timetable is at this point."
