Pierzynski set to return to lineup on Tuesday

FRISCO -- A.J. Pierzynski played the second game of his rehab assignment for Double-A Frisco on Monday, going 1-for-3 as the RoughRiders' designated hitter.

Pierzynski went 0-for-3 and caught two basestealers for Frisco on Sunday, starting and catching the first five innings. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 6 with a strained right oblique and will be back in the Rangers lineup for Tuesday's game against A's.

It's really boring on the DL," Pierzynski said. "I don't have any pain. I thought today would be more of a test after playing yesterday. There's no pain. Hopefully, I'll be activated tomorrow and play tomorrow."

Pierzynski had an infield single to San Antonio shortstop Jeudy Valdez in his first at-bat Monday before grounding out in his next two. The Rangers have won seven of their nine games since placing Pierzynski on the DL.

"We're winning games. That's the biggest thing," Pierzynski said. "I'm ready to get back and play. When you're on the DL, you feel kind of alone and not really part of the team because you can't really do anything."

Robinson Chirinos was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock following Monday's game to make room for Pierzynski.
