Akron RHP Cody Anderson, Lynchburg OF Bradley Zimmer Earn Minor League Players of the Month

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron RHP CODY ANDERSON has been named the Indians Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April, while Lynchburg OF BRADLEY ZIMMER has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Month. The Indians Player of the Month award recognizes individual performances from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced at the conclusion of each month through the end of the Minor League season.

Anderson, 24, posted a 2-1 record with a 1.13 ERA (3ER/24.0IP) in 4 April starts. The right-hander's 1.13 ERA is 5th-best in the Eastern League and the 2nd-lowest in the Cleveland organization. Anderson finished April with 18 strikeouts, T3rd on the RubberDucks, and a WHIP of 1.00, the lowest among the club's starting pitchers. In his latest start, April 26 vs. Bowie, the right-hander tossed 5.2 innings without allowing an earned run (5H, 1R-0ER, 1BB, 5SO).

Anderson was the Indians 14th round selection (428th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Feather River College (Quincy, CA). He was named the 2013 Cleveland Indians Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going a combined 9-4 with a 2.65 ERA in 26 starts between A Carolina and AA Akron (136.0IP, 121H, 40ER, 40BB, 122K). The Quincy, California native was added to the 40-man roster on November 20 and entered the 2015 season ranked as the 10th-best prospect in the Indians system (Baseball America).

Zimmer, 22, led the Indians Player Development system in the month of April with a .357 clip (25-for-70, 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 10 walks, 11 RBI, 15 R), failing to record a hit in just 3 of his 19 games played. The 6-4, 200-pounder is among organizational leaders in home hit, (1st, 25), runs (T1st, 4), stolen bases (1st, 11) and RBI (5th, 12). The former University of San Francisco Don, is among Carolina League-leaders in average (1st), HR (1st), total bases (1st, 41), on-base percentage (1st, .448), slugging percentage (1st, .569) and hits (T1st). Zimmer ended the month on a 6-game hit streak, batting .545 (12-for-22) over that span.

Zimmer was the Indians first round pick (21st overall) in the 2014 MLB Draft, spending a majority of his 2014 season at Mahoning Valley (45G, .304AVG, 4HR, 30RBI). Entering 2015, Zimmer was named the 84th-best prospect in Keith Law's top 100 (ESPN) and the 14th-best prospect (second-best in the organization) by Baseball America.
