Akron RHP Jeff Johnson, Lynchburg OF Clint Frazier earn Minor League Players of the Month

The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron RHP JEFF JOHNSON has been named the Indians Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July, while Lynchburg OF CLINT FRAZIER has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Month. The Indians Player of the Month award recognizes individual performances from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced at the conclusion of each month through the end of the Minor League season.

Johnson, 25, did not surrender a run over 9.0 innings of work in the month of July (0.00 ERA), registering 6 saves and 10 strikeouts in 9 appearances. The right-hander held opponents to just a .103 (3-for-29) average against and a .212 on-base percentage, allowing just one extra-base hit (double). His 6 saves in the month of July were tied for sixth-most amongst Eastern League relievers.

Johnson was the Indians 10th round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Thousand Oaks, California native has spent the entire season with Double-A Akron, going 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA (5ER/39.2IP) and 19 saves (19-for-19 in save opportunities) over 38 appearances. The 2015 Eastern League All-Star ranks among league-leaders in saves (T3rd), games finished (3rd, 32) and appearances (6th).

Frazier, 20, hit .363 (37-for-102) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 17 RBI across 28 games played in July. He also drew 16 walks, stole 6 bases and scored 21 runs. The Loganville, Georgia native ranked among Carolina League-leaders during July in average (1st, .363), hits (1st, 37), on-base percentage (2nd, 442), extra-base hits (T3rd, 12), runs (3rd, 21), walks (4th, 16) and RBI (T5th, 17). Frazier tallied an 11-game hit streak from July 12-22 and reached base safely via a hit or walk in 27 of 28 games played.

Frazier was the Indians 1st round selection (5th overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Loganville High School. He has spent the entire season at Advanced-A Lynchburg, hitting .278 (108-for-388) with 56 RBI and 39 extra-base hits. Frazier ranks among league leaders in hits (2nd, 108), runs (2nd, 67), home runs (T2nd, 12), walks (3rd, 52), on-base percentage (4th, .371) and RBI (4th, 56).
