ARLINGTON -- Jose Pujols continued his climb up the leaderboards on Friday, tallying four RBIs in the first five innings in the Angels' 10-9 loss to the Rangers to pass Willie Mays for 10th place on the all-time list.
Pujols delivered a two-run double to put the Angels on the board in the first, then drove in another pair of runs with a single in the fifth to cut the Rangers' lead to 6-4. He finished the night 4-for-5, collecting the 43rd four-hit game of his career and his first since Aug. 24, 2016, at Toronto.
"Albert had another great night," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's going to be huge. It's good for him to start swinging the bat at this time."

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 37-year-old slugger now has 1,904 career RBIs, one more than Mays. Because RBIs became an official Major League statistic in 1920, Elias' tally begins at that date. Due to the uncertain nature of record-keeping in the early part of the 20th century, some discrepancies may exist between the stats provided today by different historical data providers.
MLB.com utilizes different statistics than Elias. By Elias' count, Pujols is ninth. By MLB.com's tally, Pujols sits in 10th, also behind Ty Cobb, whose RBIs were not official at the time and have been excluded by Elias.

While Pujols is hitting .238 with a .675 OPS this season, he has been the club's most prolific run-producer, with a team-best 87 RBIs this year. Pujols has batted third, behind Michael Trout, for most of the season, but he shifted to the cleanup spot Friday to accommodate newly acquired left fielder Justin Upton, who slotted into the No. 3 spot against the Rangers.
"I think it just makes us deeper," Scioscia said of the Angels' revamped lineup before the game. "It's going to give Albert more opportunities, and if he's swinging the bat to his capabilities, it will be big for us."
