Hanson goes on DL; Giants call up Slater

May 14th, 2018

Giants second baseman was placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, with a left hamstring strain, and the club called up outfielder on Monday.
Hanson slightly strained his left hamstring during Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Pirates and did not play in Sunday's series finale.
"It's so mild that it could be a couple days but he had an MRI today," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Monday's series opener vs. the Reds. "They're guessing 10 to 14 [days]. We're hoping for the lesser, trust me. This kid was really playing some great ball. Good second base, providing power, speed. He was doing a nice job."
Signed as a free agent before the season, Hanson, who played for the White Sox and Pirates, has looked good at the plate and in the field for the struggling Giants since replacing injured second baseman Joe Panik in late April. He has a .984 OPS with four home runs in 52 plate appearances this season.
Bochy said the team needs to add another infielder and indicated another roster move is pending.
