Bregman, Hernandez to be called up to Triple-A

June 27th, 2016

KANSAS CITY -- The Astros plan to send top prospect Alex Bregman and outfield prospect Teoscar Hernandez to Triple-A Fresno following Tuesday's Texas League All-Star Game, where both will play representing the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Bregman, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's Draft out of LSU and the team's No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, hit .297 with a .415 on-base percentage, 14 homers and 46 RBIs in 62 games for the Hooks. The shortstop played some third base in recent weeks because the Astros have Carlos Correa holding down shortstop in the big leagues, but his promotion means it's realistic he could be in Houston at some point this year.
Fresno is off Wednesday but opens a four-game series in Salt Lake City on Thursday.
Hernandez came on strong this year, hitting. 305 with six homers, 30 RBIs and 29 stolen bases in 40 chances at Corpus Christi. The Dominican was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2011 and hit just .219 at Double-A last year before rebounding nicely in 2016.
Bregman and Hernandez are two of eight Hooks selected to play in the Texas League All-Star Game on Tuesday in Springfield, Mo. Also participating are pitchers Edison Frias, David Paulino, Keegan Yuhl and lefty Evan Grills, outfielder Derek Fisher and third baseman J.D. Davis. Bregman and Fisher will participate in the Home Run Derby.
