Left-hander Alex Wood, who along with Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and James Farmer was traded from the Dodgers to the Reds last week, appeared on MLB Network's MLB Tonight for an interview Wednesday.
Host Fran Charles, analyst Bill Ripken and MLB Network insider Joel Sherman asked Wood for his thoughts on his new club, as well as the importance of next season from an individual standpoint, given that it is his last before free agency.
"It's bittersweet because I spent the last four years in L.A.," Wood said, "I have a lot of really close relationships with a lot of guys on that team, and we've done a lot of great things over the last few years. ... But I'm excited. It seems like the Reds are starting to make some moves, and they're ready to win now."

Going from Dodger Stadium, considered a pitcher's park, to Great American Ball Park, one of the most hitter-friendly venues in baseball, could be a challenge for Wood as he auditions in preparation for his upcoming free agency. Wood said he doesn't prepare for starts any differently based on the ballpark, and tries to execute in the same way everywhere.

"I've never been a guy over the course of my career that has given up a lot of homers," Wood said. "Obviously, with the park in Cincinnati, they give up a lot of homers there, but hopefully with some of these additions and some of these young guys in the rotation, maybe things will start to change a little bit."
With the Reds already boasting a powerful lineup that includes Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett, Eugenio Suarez and Scott Schebler, Wood emphasized the front office's moves so far this offseason in bringing in pitching to complement that great offense, which will now feature Puig and Kemp as well.
Wood capped the interview by noting that the Reds don't appear to be done making moves to improve the roster heading into 2019, which is cause for excitement.
"I think we're going to win many more games than we did last year," Wood said, "and I'm excited to be a part of that."
