Amaro: Sandberg has done OK in first week

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies finished Ryne Sandberg's first week as interim manager with a 4-3 record.

"I think they've been doing OK," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Friday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. "Obviously winning is better than losing. They're staying in games and staying after it. I haven't had any complaints from the players, and so far he's done OK."

Asked about wins and losses determining Sandberg's future with the team, Amaro said, "It doesn't have anything to do with wins and losses for me. It's about how he handles himself being in this position on a lot of different levels. So far, he's handled himself pretty well."

Amaro said he has liked "a lot of things" Sandberg has implemented, but he declined to elaborate.

"I'll keep them to myself," Amaro said.
