McCutchen bows out of MLB, MTV project

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Andrew McCutchen is too busy being an MVP-caliber baseball player to be executive producer of an edgy TV show melding baseball and pop culture.

McCutchen is out as World Series MVP David Ortiz's co-executive producer of the 30-episode weekly series that's still being planned to begin airing near the conclusion of Spring Training.

MLB and MTV jointly announced the joint venture in November. But the more details McCutchen heard about how the project is to be carried out, the less he felt he had the time to devote to it.

"It is a very time-consuming commitment. I just couldn't see being able to pull it off," McCutchen said.

McCutchen's potential replacement on the production crew has not yet been named. Neither MLB nor MTV has yet made an announcement regarding McCutchen's withdrawal.
