DETROIT -- Andrew Romine, who played every position but catcher this season as the Tigers' super-utility player, has been selected as the winner for the 2016 Bill McAdam Tenth Man Award by the Detroit Baseball Society.
Romine will receive the award at the annual Detroit Baseball Dinner, set for Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. ET at the MotorCity Casino Hotel.
The 30-year-old Romine entered the 2016 season as a utility infielder and emergency catcher who could play the outfield in a pinch. He ended up as a fill-in shortstop, center fielder, second baseman and third baseman, playing at least 10 games at five different positions. Add in late-inning appearances in right and left field and a mop-up appearance at pitcher, and Romine did everything but get behind the plate.
Add up the workload, and Romine appeared in 108 games. He hit .236 (41-for-174) with 21 runs scored, two home runs and 16 RBIs.
