Andrus, Beltre, Desmond need ASG vote help

June 21st, 2016

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have the best record in the American League, and second best in the Majors behind the Cubs, but they do not have a single position player in line to start the 2016 All-Star Game, being held on July 12 at San Diego's Petco Park, after the latest ballot update was released on Tuesday.
Third baseman Adrian Beltre and shortstop Elvis Andrus were fourth at their respective positions, and center fielder Ian Desmond ranked ninth among the outfielders.
"I mean, there are a couple [All-Stars on our team], for sure," Beltre said, "Ian should be there. Elvis could be there, too, he's got numbers for that."

Desmond is especially worthy of All-Star consideration, as he leads all qualifying AL outfielders with a .312 average and leads the Rangers with 46 RBIs. He's also made a seamless transition into the outfield after spending the first seven seasons of his career as a shortstop for the Nationals.
"Ian is probably the best guy who needs to get recognized, and probably be elected, because he's having an unbelievable season," Beltre said.
Beltre himself is having an All-Star-worthy season, batting .275 with 10 homers and 42 RBIs despite missing seven games with a hamstring injury, but he's not convinced he should be heading to San Diego.
"I don't think that I should be there right now," he said. "I think other guys deserve to go more than I do."
