Angels acquire RHP Jhoulys Chacin from Braves

The Angels Wednesday acquired RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for minor league LHP Adam McCreery. Additionally, RHP Matt Shoemaker has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake and INF Ji-Man Choi has been designated for assignment. Chacin will not be active for tonight's game vs. St. Louis and a corresponding roster move will be made when he reports to the Club. Today's announcements were made by General Manager Billy Eppler.

The Angels Wednesday acquired RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for minor league LHP Adam McCreery. Additionally, RHP Matt Shoemaker has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake and INF Ji-Man Choi has been designated for assignment. Chacin will not be active for tonight's game vs. St. Louis and a corresponding roster move will be made when he reports to the Club. Today's announcements were made by General Manager Billy Eppler. 
 
Chacin, 28, is currently in his eighth Major League season and 12th professional campaign. In five starts for the Braves, the native of Maracaibo, VZ recorded a 1-2 record and 5.40 ERA (26.2 IP - 16 ER) while striking out 27. Last season he posted an overall 9-7 record with a 3.24 ERA with three teams (Arizona Diamondbacks, Reno Aces and the Columbus Clippers).   
 
Originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on September 27, 2004, Chacin has pitched for the Rockies, Indians, Diamondbacks and Braves organizations. He currently owns a Major League career record of 41-51 and 3.82 ERA (725.1 IP - 308 ER) in 134 games, 118 of those starts. 
 
McCreery, 23, is in his third professional season with the Angels. He pitched the last two years (2014-15) for Tempe in the Arizona League and posted a 3.52 ERA in 31 appearances (all out of the bullpen) with 49 strikeouts and a .169 opponents' batting average in 38.1 innings pitched. He is currently in extended spring training.
 
The 6-foot-8 lefty is a native of La Verne, Calif., and was selected in the 22nd round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Azusa Pacific University.
