Glove at first sight for Bailey and his mitts

February 20th, 2017

TEMPE, Ariz. -- It was an exciting day at Angels camp for right-hander , who received his new gloves for the season on Glove Day from Wilson Sporting Goods representatives on Monday morning at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
"I got my new whips!" Bailey said.
Bailey picked up two A2000 models this year: a custom black glove with red stitching that features his two children's initials -- TGB (Theodora Grace Bailey) and MSB (Matthew Scott Bailey) -- and a generic tan glove with brown stitching. He said he usually sticks with a black-and-yellow color scheme but decided to "switch it up a little" this season and introduce some new colors into his glove collection.
Bailey will spend the next two to three weeks breaking in his new gloves, a process he typically achieves by pounding the leather with a mallet and wearing them during throwing sessions. He is leaning toward using his new black mitt as his gameday glove, though he'll wait to see how it feels at the end of Spring Training before fully committing to it.
"We'll see how the babies break in," Bailey said. "You can't just go off and name your first child your gamer right out of the shoot. You've got to see how they break in."
C.J. Cron, Danny Espinosa and are the other Angels currently contracted with Wilson who were also outfitted with their new gloves on Monday.
