ANAHEIM -- The beleaguered Angels pitching staff won't see much relief anytime soon, but it did receive some good news on Sunday when C.J. Wilson threw off the mound in a bullpen session and saw positive results.
It was the first time Wilson has thrown off the mound since March. The left-hander has yet to pitch this season as he's been struggling with shoulder tendinitis since Spring Training. Wilson has said he's aiming for a mid-June return to the rotation, which is without Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney and Tyler Skaggs.
"I think it was about 23 pitches. C.J. said he went about 80 percent and felt good," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "That's the first step in a process that is going to take some time, but it's a good first step."
There's still a spot in the rotation to fill and the Angels have yet to decide who will take the mound on Wednesday against the Cardinals. Cory Rasmus made a spot start on Friday and the Angels have Matt Shoemaker and Nate Smith in Triple-A.
Worth noting
• Closer Huston Street, who has been out with an oblique strain since April 24, is going to be re-evaluated Sunday and Monday with the hopes of starting a throwing program early in the week. Street is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA and five saves in nine appearances this season.
