TEMPE, Ariz. -- C.J. Wilson has not pitched in a game this spring and almost assuredly with start the season on the disabled list. But when he returns it will be with a new delivery.
Wilson on Saturday told reporters he is making a drastic change to his delivery, to alleviate pressure on his shoulder, and said he won't be recognizable. Manager Mike Scioscia later said he wasn't aware the change will be that different.
"He's not going submarine or anything you're going to go 'Oh, my God' at, the way he's describing it to me," Scioscia said. "He hasn't taken it onto a mound yet. We'll see.
"He's trying a new arm slot, a little lower, that's more conducive to where he's feeling. I think it's a career adjustment as to where he is physically right now. It's not so different than he's done before. He's just trying to find a comfortable arm slot and release point right now."
Wilson, 35, began to experience shoulder tendinitis four weeks ago and struggled to throw a bullpen session last weekend. Scioscia on Monday said there was no timetable for the left-handed Wilson's return to a mound.
Wilson was 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts last season.
Worth noting
• First baseman Albert Pujols could play the field for the first time in the coming days, Scioscia said. Pujols has been relegated to designated hitter all spring as he recovers from off-season foot surgery. During Saturday's Cactus League game against the Brewers, Pujols hit two home runs in the third inning.
"I don't think there's anything to rush," Scioscia said. "When he feels he's ready, then we'll look at it. But right now we're just looking at him as DH."
• Shortstop Andrelton Simmons (arm) will throw long toss Sunday and could be back in the field early next week. That won't be Tuesday's split-squad game in Salt Lake City against the team's Triple-A affiliate, Scioscia said.
• Catcher Geovany Soto (arm) was back in the lineup as the DH on Friday and should be ready to go back behind the plate as soon as Sunday or Monday, Scioscia said.
• The Angels on Sunday optioned infielders Kaleb Cowart and Kyle Kubitza to the Minors and reassigned infielder Sherman Johnson to Minor League camp.
• Left fielder Daniel Nava was hit in the helmet by a Wily Peralta pitch in the second inning Saturday and was removed from the game for precautionary reasons. He was evaluated by team doctors and did not show any signs of a concussion, the team announced.

"I feel bad for him. I don't want to hit him," Peralta said. "I know he's trying to battle for a spot in Spring Training, and I don't want to hit him on the head. I hope that he feels fine."
