ARLINGTON -- Angels closer Huston Street completed a 20-pitch simulated inning from Globe Life Park on Monday afternoon, facing hitters for the first time since going on the disabled list with an oblique strain more than three weeks ago.
Street will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, then pitch in an extended spring game in Arizona on Friday, which he hopes will be his final step before rejoining the team. The 32-year-old right-hander expects "additional soreness than you're used to" when he resumes pitching in Major League games but believes he'll be able to work through it.
"I'll be ready to go," Street said. "When I come back, I'll be ready to go."
In 25 days without Street, the Angels' bullpen logged 79 1/3 innings, fifth-most in the Majors, and produced a 3.52 ERA. Setup man Joe Smith took over the closing duties, converting four of five save chances in that span, while Cam Bedrosian had given up only two unearned runs in 11 1/3 innings.
"I was proud of them," said Street, who has a 1.17 ERA and has converted all five save opportunities. "I was really proud of the 'pen."
Worth noting
• Tim Lincecum threw a 61-pitch simulated game at the Angels' Spring Training complex in Arizona on Monday and will throw in an extended spring game at the facility on Saturday. Lincecum's first rehab start would come as early as June 2 for Triple-A Salt Lake. He could join the Angels' rotation after just two starts.
• Part-time left fielder Craig Gentry was expected to be activated during this series, but the Angels announced on Monday that he will remain on the DL due to a "personal medical condition." Gentry has been on the DL with a right lumbar spine strain since May 1 and played in two games for Class A Advanced Inland Empire.
• Kole Calhoun was given his first day off Monday, against Rangers lefty Derek Holland. Calhoun's absence prompted Mike Trout to hit in the No. 2 spot for the second time this year. Angels manager Mike Scioscia will go back to hitting Trout third when Calhoun returns, saying Trout is getting more RBI opportunities in that spot.
• Pitching prospect Danny Reynolds cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake, three days after getting designated for assignment. Fellow right-handed relievers A.J. Achter and Al Alburquerque were DFA'd over the weekend and can refuse an outright to the Minors if they end up clearing waivers.
