BOSTON -- C.J. Cron unleashed his first career grand slam in the Angels' 5-4 loss at Fenway Park on Friday night, a laser off Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright that just barely cleared the Green Monster in left-center field.
Cron turned on an 86-mph fastball in the sixth and blasted it a projected 358 feet, according to Statcast™. It left his bat at a projected 110 mph, the 15th ball Cron has hit with that much authority this season.
"It felt good," said Cron, batting .329 since the start of June. "I really just wanted to put a good swing on it. Full count there, I was just looking for a pitch in the zone and thankfully I got it."

Cron's slam came on a night the Angels were left frustrated with a replay review that went against them.
With the Angels trailing by a run with two outs in the ninth, Mike Trout was on first and Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel was on the mound. Daniel Nava pulled an 0-1, 98-mph fastball into the warning track in right. It hit the dirt, struck the top of the five-foot fence beyond Pesky's Pole and caromed high.

Replay showed that it could've bounced back into the field of play. But a young fan in a Red Sox jersey stretched his right arm and caught it. And Trout, already rounding third base, was told to stay put.
Cron grounded out to end the game on the very next pitch, and the Red Sox knew they caught a break.
