LOS ANGELES -- Angels center fielder Mike Trout missed Thursday night's 2-1 win vs. the Dodgers with a stomach virus.
Manager Mike Scioscia did not have any additional information regarding when or how Trout contracted the virus and it was also unknown whether Trout would be available for Saturday's game.
With Opening Day four days away, the illness was considered to be a minor issue and isn't expected to affect Trout's status for the season opener against the Cubs in Anaheim.
Worth noting
• Albert Pujols played first base Wednesday, but Scioscia said that he doesn't anticipate that being a regular event.
"Albert needs to swing the bat for us and we don't want to risk anything he does in the batter's box and compromise that with him going out there at first base and trying to do too much."
Scioscia said that he's going to be very cautious with how and when he puts Pujols in the field,
"I know that he loves to play first base, he's still a first basemen and we're going to monitor and be sensitive to keeping him strong in the batter's box."
"He played first base the other day and he came out of it very well and that's a good sign," Scioscia added.
• C.J. Wilson hasn't started to throw yet, and he's going to be evaluated on his strength this weekend and the team will decide what the next step is.
• Jered Weaver threw 90 pitchers in a rehab start in the Minor Leagues on Wednesday and according to Scioscia "He came out of it very well, so we'll evaluate that and see how he throws his bullpen [session] and see when he's ready to go."
• Scioscia is excited to watch newly acquired outfielder Shane Robinson play during the Freeway Series.
"He's a versatile player as an outfielder, he runs well, definitely puts the ball into play."
While Scioscia wouldn't commit to how Robinson will be used, he said, "I think he's the kind of player that can definitely fit into role we want to do, so we'll see how this weekend goes and where our roster is, but he's certainly a guy who's going to add depth."
