Angels name Jose Molina catching coordinator

The Angels today announced Jose Molina will return to the organization as Catching Coordinator. Today's announcement was made by General Manager Billy Eppler.

Molina, 40, played 15 seasons in the Major Leagues, including seven years with the Angels (2001-07). He compiled a career batting average of .233 (592/2546) with 39 home runs and 223 RBI across 947 games with the Cubs, Angels, Yankees, Blue Jays and Rays. He was a member of the Angels 2002 World Series championship club as well as the Yankees World Series winning squad in 2009.

Behind the plate, Molina posted a career 37% (224/609) caught stealing percentage and a .994 career fielding percentage, with just 39 errors in 15 Major League seasons. Since 1999, the 37% caught stealing rate ranks second (min. 4000 innings caught) to only Ivan Rodriguez's 44.1% (242/549). His 25 career catcher pickoffs rank tied with Thurman Munson for fourth most all-time behind Rodriguez (79), Jim Sundberg (52) and Bob Boone (33).
