MINNEAPOLIS -- Prior to the series finale with the Twins on Wednesday, the Angels placed right-hander Huston Street on the 10-day disabled list with a right adductor/groin strain. Right-handed reliever Eduardo Paredes takes his place on the roster.
Street tossed a scoreless inning against the Mariners on Sunday in his last outing. He allowed one hit and walked one. In four games this season, Street hasn't allowed a run while giving up just two hits across four frames.
"His last outing, he felt a little bit in his groin with about two or three pitches to go," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Just didn't feel good after the last couple days, so we wanted to make sure to get this behind him."
This is Paredes' second stint with the Halos. He made his big league debut June 23, appearing in one game before being optioned. Paredes struck out one, allowing two runs on two hits across 2 2/3 innings.
Paredes, the Angels' No. 15 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, has pitched exceptionally well in the Minor Leagues. This season, he's posted a 1.73 ERA in 26 outings between Double-A and Triple-A. Paredes has struck out 49 and walked 17 across 41 2/3 innings.
The Angels are hopeful that Street is out for the minimum of 10 days. However, even with the All-Star break looming and an off-day on Thursday, the team did not entertain the idea of keeping him in the bullpen and not using him.
"I know we are getting up against the All-Star break, but whatever perceived bullpen depth you have can evaporate in one game," Scioscia said. "It's manageable to give guys a day off when they need a couple days down. But if someone is down four or five days, that strains the whole 'pen."
Worth noting
• The Angels announced that Michael Trout is slated for his first rehab game with Class A Advanced Inland Empire on Wednesday. Trout was scheduled to get two at-bats at designated hitter. As long as there are no setbacks, Trout remains on schedule to rejoin Los Angeles after the break.
• Scioscia said Matthew Shoemaker's scheduled rehab is on hold. The right-hander, who has been on the shelf since June 17, felt renewed pain in his forearm during a rehab outing on Tuesday. Shoemaker tossed three scoreless innings and allowed two hits for Inland Empire.
• Left-hander Tyler Skaggs threw a bullpen session on Wednesday. He has been sidelined since April 29 with a right oblique strain. Prior to the injury, he logged a 3.99 ERA over 29 1/3 innings.
