ANAHEIM -- Tyler Skaggs has been scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday against the Mariners because of tightness in his left forearm, the Angels announced after Tuesday night's 8-0 loss to Seattle.
Jhoulys Chacín will make the start for the Angels in the finale of a three-game series at Angel Stadium. It will be the first start for Chacin since Aug. 21, when he beat the Yankees with 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
Skaggs is scheduled to have an MRI exam on Wednesday, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia. The fact that Skaggs is dealing with forearm tightness is a bit alarming, considering the left-hander is in his first season back from August 2014 Tommy John surgery.
"You're always concerned, for sure, with any pitcher," Scioscia said. "With Tyler's history, obviously we're going to err on the side of caution. We'll wait and see. He'll have some tests tomorrow. Hopefully it's just a little bump in the road."
Scioscia said he first learned Skaggs was dealing with the issue on Tuesday and the decision to scratch him from Wednesday's start was as a precaution.
Skaggs had been pitching well, with a 1.50 ERA and 2-0 record over his last three starts. He struck out eight over six scoreless innings against the Rangers on Friday in his last outing.
The Angels' rotation has already suffered season-ending injuries to Garrett Richards, Matt Shoemaker, Andrew Heaney, Nick Tropeano and C.J. Wilson.
