BALTIMORE -- Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar saw the first half of his season end prematurely, when he was ejected in the seventh inning by home-plate umpire Tim Timmons.
Escobar did not agree that Orioles slugger Chris Davis checked his swing on a 1-1 pitch from Angels reliever Cam Bedrosian and proceeded to draw home plate in the dirt near third base while arguing the call. Timmons ejected him before the next pitch from behind the plate.
"There was some frustration involved, and that's it," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of the ejection.
Escobar, who had a career-high 13-game hitting streak snapped Saturday in Baltimore, entered play Sunday hitting .321, tied for seventh in the American League. Second baseman Johnny Giavotella replaced Escobar, with Gregorio Petit shifting from second base to third.
It was Escobar's third ejection of the season and No. 12 of his career.
