Anibal to remain in rotation for another start

Norris slated for second Minor League rehab start for Triple-A Toledo

July 20th, 2016

DETROIT -- 's strong outing Tuesday will earn him at least one more turn through the Tigers' rotation. The veteran right-hander, who had been sent to the bullpen before injuries forced him back into a starting role, will start for the Tigers on Sunday against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
Sanchez gets the start in place of , who will instead make a second Minor League rehab start for Triple-A Toledo on Saturday at Norfolk.
It'll be Sanchez's 16th start this season. Tuesday's outing against the Twins was his second quality start of the year, having taken a 1-0 deficit into the seventh inning before allowing two baserunners that turned into add-on runs when singled them home off .
Essentially, it'll be the Tigers' -- and Sanchez's -- job to try to build on the momentum of Tuesday's start, in which he struck out 10 Twins for his first double-digit strikeout effort since May 24, 2015, and his third in three seasons since his 202-strikeout campaign of 2014.
"I just want to be consistent," said Sanchez, who said he watched video of the outing to get a better look at what worked well.
Sanchez is 2-6 with a 5.26 ERA for his career against Chicago, a team he faced in two relief appearances this season for three innings of one-run ball. He hasn't started at U.S. Cellular Field since 2013, when he tossed 13 1/3 scoreless innings over two starts with five walks and 15 strikeouts.
Norris tossed four innings of one-run ball for the Mud Hens on Monday but threw 67 pitches, just shy of his 70-75 pitch count. The Hens did not bring him out for one more batter in the fifth. Norris said he'll probably stretch out to 80-85 pitches on Saturday, which would put him in line for close to 100 pitches in his next start, whether at Toledo or Detroit.
