5K walk to raise funds, awareness for lung cancer

Annual event's route includes Oriole Park at Camden Yards

October 19th, 2016

BALTIMORE -- The 9th Annual Breathe Deep Baltimore 5K walk will be held Saturday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The LUNGevity Foundation -- the nation's leading lung-cancer-focused organization -- and Baltimore community members will join together to help raise funds and awareness for lung cancer.
Event-day check-in begins at 7 a.m., and the walk starts at 9 a.m. -- rain or shine. The walk route will include laps around M&T Stadium and Oriole Park with a final lap around the Camden Yards field. It will conclude near the dugout for the closing program, where the participants will be seated above the dugout.

Breathe Deep Baltimore was founded in 2008 in memory of Betsy Hamer by her daughter, Cindy Malloy. This year's event is in special memory of Monica Barlow, public relations director for the Orioles, who passed away from lung cancer in 2014.
In the past nine years, the event has hosted thousands of participants and raised over half a million dollars for lung cancer research.
Adults and children of all ages are invited to take part. Participants may start a team, join a team, or simply register as individuals. The walk will include music, free refreshments, a social media scavenger hunt, kids' activities, visits from the Oriole Bird and team awards. Most of the course is stroller- and wheelchair-friendly; accommodations will be made for participants in wheelchairs to visit the field at an alternative location near home plate.
