PHOENIX -- D-backs outfielder David Peralta was not in the starting lineup for the fifth consecutive game Thursday due to a sore right wrist, and the club is hopeful the added rest will help him avoid a stint on the disabled list.
An examination of Peralta's wrist by hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan on Thursday morning showed no structural damage, D-backs manager Chip Hale said. The outfielder, who has not played since serving as a late-inning substitution May 8, is considered day to day.
The D-backs started a four-game series against the Giants at Chase Field on Thursday. The Yankees will visit for three games starting Monday.
"He is still receiving treatment and not ready to be in the starting lineup," Hale said. "We are not going to make any moves. We feel like he can still help us off the bench right. He's progressively getting better. There's no structural damage."
The discomfort in Peralta's wrist can be traced back to last month when he was twice hit by pitches in the series against San Francisco. The club has considered placing Peralta on the DL.
"You always are when a guy has an injury and how he is responding," Hale said. "But right now, I guess the progression has been pretty good since we sat him down."
