D-backs, Parra reach one-year deal
PHOENIX -- The D-backs agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Gerardo Parra on Monday, avoiding salary arbitration.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but The Arizona Republic reported that Parra will make $4.85 million. The 26-year-old had filed for arbitration at $5.2 million, while the club offered $4.3 million.
Parra won his second National League Gold Glove Award in 2013, when he spent time at all three outfield positions, with the majority in right. He set a club record with 17 outfield assists and was named the NL's Wilson Defensive Player of the Year. At the plate, Parra hit .268/.323/.403 with a career-high 10 home runs and 48 RBIs in 156 games.
This was the second of three arbitration years for Parra, who will receive a raise from the $2.35 million he made in '13.
The D-backs now have just one remaining arbitration-eligible player, outfielder Mark Trumbo.
Trumbo submitted a $5.85 million figure as part of the arbitration process, while the D-backs offered $3.4 million.
"We're continuing to have good dialogue," D-backs general manager Kevin Towers said. "We're going to continue to have dialogue right up until the hearing, and hopefully we avoid it and get something done, and I'm hopeful that we will."
