Daily AFL updates

Griffin Roberts, RHP, Cardinals No. 19
Roberts dazzled during his four innings on the hill, racking up five strikeouts, ending his start on back-to-back punchouts. The Wake Forest product yielded just two hits and one walk, rebounding for his second scoreless outing in the Fall League after a bumpy appearance his previous time out.

Seth Beer, 1B/OF, D-backs No. 4
Beer (MLB No. 96) powered Salt River’s offense as the Rafters rallied from an 8-0 deficit to defeat Peoria. Beer hit an RBI single in the third inning and then added a two-run single in the sixth to trim the Javelinas’ lead to one run. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs to improve his Fall League average to .375. More »

Tyler Stephenson, C, Reds No. 7
Stephenson served as Glendale’s DH and delivered the go-ahead knock in the 11th to put the team ahead for good. He finished 2-for-5, notching his third multihit effort in the AFL while raising his batting average to .375 and his OPS to 1.006. Stephenson is off to a torrid start in the fall, making his case for a quick ascension up the Reds’ Minor League ranks in 2020.

Josh Lowe, OF, Rays No. 11
Lowe connected on his first Fall League homer, a tape-measure solo shot to the second level of the batter’s eye in center field at Salt River Fields that had an exit velocity of 111.2 mph. Lowe also had a 105.4 mph single in the contest, which he finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. The former first-round pick (2016) is batting .343.

Royce Lewis, SS, Twins No. 1
Lewis (MLB No. 9) added to his already impressive AFL campaign with a 3-for-5 performance that included his fourth double. His third-inning single, meanwhile, was the third-hardest-hit ball in Salt River’s 10-9 win over Peoria, checking in at 106.7 mph. Overall, Lewis is batting .361 with a 1.122 OPS and 11 RBIs through nine games.

Victor Victor Mesa, OF, Marlins No. 13
Mesa had a big day at the plate for Salt River, going 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and a walk. After a disappointing pro debut in which he slashed .235/.274/.263 in 116 games between Class A Advanced Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville, the 23-year-old outfielder is currently batting .409 in the AFL, one of the circuit’s best marks, with nine hits in his first six games. Mesa did, however, also drop a routine fly ball in the first inning that led to three unearned runs.

Joey Bart, C; Heliot Ramos, OF, Giants Nos. 1 and 2
Bart and Ramos showcased their power as they both went deep for Scottsdale. Bart’s homer, a two-run shot in the first, put the Scorpions on the board, and Ramos’ three-run blast with two outs in the eighth tied the game at 5. Bart, who reached base three times as part of a 1-for-2 performance on Friday, owns a share of the AFL with four homers, while Ramos’s was his first of the season. More »

Micker Adolfo, OF, White Sox No. 11
Adolfo cranked his second home run of the fall in the fifth, a deep drive to left-center field. He entered the day 3-for-22 with Glendale, before collecting three hits in the club’s victory. Chicago’s No. 11 prospect also did not strike out for the first time in eight AFL appearances.

Jo Adell, OF, Angels No. 1
Adell (MLB No. 5) hit an RBI double and pushed across a run via a bases-loaded walk in a 1-for-4 performance for Mesa. The 20-year-old outfielder has hit safely in seven straight for the Solar Sox and owns a .296 average with seven RBIs in 12 games this fall.
