Free-agent reliever Aroldis Chapman is hoping to land a six-year deal, the flamethrower told ESPN's Marly Rivera.
With Mark Melancon off the table after signing with the Giants on Monday afternoon, all eyes have turned to Chapman, who refuted the belief he is seeking a $100 million contract.

"The only thing I have expressed is that I would like a six-year contract," Chapman told Rivera on Monday. "I know that doesn't mean that I will get it, but that's what I would like to sign. There are rumors out there that I requested $100 million, and that's not true at all. I believe he who deserves something does not need to demand it."

Melancon's reported four-year, $62 million deal with San Francisco easily bests Jonathan Papelbon's previous record contract for a reliever (four years, $50 million), and Chapman is expected to exceed that total by an even wider margin.
Free-agent right-hander Kenley Jansen is also expected to sign a larger deal than the one Melancon signed with the Giants, but is not expected to earn as much as Chapman on the open market due to the fact that he received a qualifying offer and will cost the team that signs him a first-round pick. Chapman and Melancon were traded during the season and therefore were ineligible for a qualifying offer.
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro has reported that the Marlins are targeting a big-name closer, which makes them a possible landing spot for Chapman and Jansen. Per FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, other clubs around the league believe the Marlins are prepared to offer Jansen a five-year, $80 million deal. That would require them to give up their first-round pick in the 2017 Draft because the Dodgers gave Jansen a qualifying offer.

Jansen racked up a career-high 47 saves with the Dodgers in 2016 and compiled a 2.20 ERA in his seven seasons with Los Angeles.
MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reported Monday morning Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria also loves Chapman, who saved 36 games and recorded a 1.55 ERA in 59 appearances split between the Yankees and the Cubs in 2016.

ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported the Cubs and Chapman have not progressed in their talks regarding a long-term deal, and Chapman confirmed that Monday.
"The Cubs have never expressed any interest in re-signing me, as far as I know," Chapman told Rivera.
The Yankees are also reportedly in the mix to bring Chapman back to the Bronx.
