The Oakland A's have acquired outfielder Khris Davis from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Bubba Derby and catcher Jacob Nottingham, the team announced today. To clear a spot for Davis on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Sean Nolin was designated for assignment.
Davis batted .247 with 27 home runs and 66 RBI in 121 games with the Brewers last year. The home runs tied for 10th most in the National League. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter batted .260 with 21 of his home runs against right-handed pitching compared to .212 with six home runs against left-handers. Davis made his Major League debut with Milwaukee in 2013 and is a .250 career hitter with 60 home runs and 162 RBI in 321 games over three seasons.
Derby combined for a 1-1 record and 1.21 ERA in 14 games, including 10 starts, with the A's Arizona Rookie League and Single-A Beloit affiliates last year. That breaks down to 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two starts with Arizona and 1-0 with a 0.78 ERA 12 games, eight starts, with Beloit. The 21-year-old was selected by the A's in the sixth round of the 2015 draft.
Nottingham hit a combined .316 with 17 home runs and 82 RBI in 119 games with Single-A affiliates at Quad Cities, Lancaster and Stockton last year. He started the season at Quad Cities before being promoted to Lancaster June 29. Nottingham was acquired by the A's in the Scott Kazmir trade and hit .324 with four home runs and 14 RBI with Stockton. The 20-year-old right-handed hitter was originally selected by Houston in the sixth round of the 2013 draft.  
Nolin was 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 14 games, including 12 starts, for Triple-A Nashville last year. He joined the A's as a September call-up and was 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in six starts.
