OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's agreed to terms with 17 international prospects representing seven different countries, the club announced today.
In one of the club's most diverse and far-reaching international signing periods in history, the A's agreed to terms with prospects from the following countries: Venezuela (seven), the Dominican Republic (five), Curaçao (one), Colombia (one), the Bahamas (one), Mexico (one), and Panama (one).
"We're excited for this group of players to join the organization" said Dan Feinstein, the A's assistant general manager. "Each possess a unique talent; and it's a credit to our international scouts in Latin America and beyond that we were able to identify this promising class."
This year's class follows up the A's 2016 haul, which included three of MLB.com's Top 30 international prospects: right-handed pitcher Norge Ruiz (#4), outfielder Lazaro Armenteros (#10), and infielder Yerdeluis Vargas (#28).
