A's Agree to Terms with OF Coco Crisp on Two-Year Extension

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's have agreed to terms with outfielder Coco Crisp on a two-year contract extension through the 2016 season with a vesting option for 2017, the club announced today.

Crisp, 34, enters his 13th major league season and fifth year with the A's. He is a career .272 hitter with 108 home runs, 531 RBI and 278 stolen bases in 1,294 games with Cleveland (2002-05), Boston (2006-08), Kansas City (2009) and Oakland (2010-13). 

One of the best leadoff hitters and center fielders in baseball, Crisp batted .261 with 22 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs, 66 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 131 games as a key leader on the AL West champions last year. He became only the 10th player in Athletics franchise history with at least 20 homers and 20 stolen bases and was the first since Ruben Sierra in 1993. In addition, he led all major league outfielders in total chances per nine innings (3.03), which was the best mark by an A's outfielder since 1992 (Willie Wilson, 3.54). His 309 total chances were second most in the American League among outfielders with no errors. He enters the 2014 season with a 138-game errorless streak, the fifth-longest in Oakland history by an outfielder.

The speedy outfielder has been successful in 141 of 162 (87.0%) stolen base attempts in an Oakland uniform, which is the best percentage in Athletics history. All of his career-high 22 home runs last year came batting first in the order, which was the most in the majors and tied for third most in Athletics history.

Crisp was also voted the 2013 Jim "Catfish" Hunter Award winner by his teammates, coaches and staff, an accolade that honors an A's player whose play on the field and conduct in the clubhouse best exemplifies the courageous, competitive and inspirational spirit demonstrated by the late Hall of Fame pitcher.
