A's Announce 2013 Vermont and Arizona League Coaching Staffs

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's today announced their minor league staff assignments for Short Season Single-A Vermont and their affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League for the 2013 season.

Rick Magnante returns to manage at Vermont for the third consecutive season after guiding the Lake Monsters to a 72-78 record in his first two years.  He has a 369-378 record in 10 campaigns as a minor league manager, including five years with the A's Vancouver affiliate from 2006-10 and three seasons in the Detroit farm system from 1987-89.  His pitching coach will be Craig Lefferts, who is in his 11th season in that capacity in the A's organization, including the last two years at Single-A Stockton.  Lloyd Turner was named hitting coach, his first season as a coach in the A's organization.  He was originally drafted by the A's in 2002 and spent six years in the A's farm system before concluding his playing career with Lancaster (2008-10) and Camden (2011-12) of the independent Atlantic League.  Toshi Nagahara was named athletic trainer after serving in the same capacity in 2012 with the A's in the Arizona Rookie League.

Marcus Jensen returns for his fifth season as manager of the A's affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League.  He guided the club to a 37-17 record and a first place finish in 2012 and is 116-106 in four seasons as a manager.  Carlos Chavez will be the new pitching coach, his first coaching assignment in the A's organization.  He pitched professionally for 14 seasons from 1992-2004 and 2006, including a stint with Visalia in the A's farm system in 2000.  Juan Dilone returns for his fifth season as hitting coach.  Chris Lessner begins his 20th season as an athletic trainer with the A's.
