Oakland first baseman/outfielder led Majors in RBIs, extra-base hits

Oakland utility man Brandon Moss received his third career American League Player of the Week honor after helping lead the A's to a 5-1 mark with a Major League-leading 11 RBIs last week.

In addition to leading the Majors in RBIs, the first baseman/outfielder also led the big leagues in total bases (26), extra-base hits (nine) and slugging percentage (1.182). He was tied for first in doubles (five) and was third in on-base percentage (.556).

Among American Leaguers, Moss was tied for second with three homers and eight runs. He hit .455 (10-for-22) over the six games.

Moss, who last won the award for the week ending Sept. 1, 2013, homered twice and drove in five runs Tuesday, marking his fifth career two-homer game (last on Aug. 28, 2013). He also became the first Oakland player to homer as both a first baseman and a left fielder in a single game. It was his fourth career game with five-plus RBIs.

Moss also homered Saturday, then went 3-for-3 Sunday with two doubles, a triple, two walks, three RBIs and a career-high four runs scored as Oakland swept a three-game series against Cleveland. The team has won nine of 10 overall.

He's second in the league in RBIs, third in slugging percentage (.582), fifth in on-base percentage (.391) and tied for fifth in extra-base hits with teammates Yoenis Cespedes and Josh Donaldson (21).

Donaldson (.471 average, three homers, 10 RBIs, 1.118 slugging percentage) was among the other American Leaguers recognized for their performances last week.
