Bassitt to undergo Tommy John surgery

May 5th, 2016

A's right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt was seen on Thursday by Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati. Dr. Kremchek is of the opinion that Bassitt needs ulnar collateral ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow, and the surgery is scheduled to take place on Friday at Beacon Orthopedics. Additional details will be available following the surgery.
Bassitt was 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA and .294 opponents' batting average in five starts with the A's. He allowed a career-high seven runs on a career-high 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings on April 28 in a start and loss at Detroit and went on the disabled list the next day. Bassitt did not have a decision over his first three starts, logging a 2.79 ERA, but he is 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA over his last two starts.
