A's Claim C Chris Gimenez Off Waivers from Tampa Bay

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have claimed catcher Chris Gimenez off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, the team announced today. A corresponding 40-man roster move will be announced later. 

Gimenez batted .224 with three home runs and 22 RBI in 95 games with Triple-A Durham in 2013, including 56 games at catcher, 19 games in right field, 13 games in left field, seven games at first base and one game at third base. He also added 57 walks for a .350 on-base percentage. Gimenez, 30, earned a September call-up with the Rays where he batted .333 with no home runs or RBI in four games. In his career, he has a .199 average, six home runs and 30 RBI in 143 Major League games with Cleveland, Seattle and Tampa Bay. He has tossed out 21 of 82 (25.6%) attempted base stealers in the majors.
