The Oakland A's announced the following medical update on third baseman Matt Chapman:
Chapman had successful left thumb surgery on Tuesday. Dr. Steven Shin performed an ulnar sided sesamoid bone excision along the left thumb at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Shin was pleased with the outcome of the surgery and anticipates Matt to make a full recovery prior to the start of spring training.
Chapman, 25, had a breakout season with the Athletics in 2018, hitting .278 (152-for-547) with100 runs scored, 42 doubles, 24 homers and 68 RBI. He led the Majors in doubles (25) after the All-Star break and his 52 runs scored and 42 extra-base hits led the American League in the second half. The former 1st rounder finished the second-half with a .309 batting average, 14 homers, 39 RBI and .961 OPS. He became the first player to score 100 runs in a season since Nick Swisher scored
