A's Option Billy Burns to Sacramento; Designate Jake Elmore for Assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's optioned outfielder Billy Burns to Triple-A Sacramento and designated infielder Jake Elmore for assignment, the club announced today. The Burns move clears a spot on the 25-man roster and the Elmore move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for today's trades. The A's will have to make one more 25-man roster move before all three players acquired today report to Oakland.

Burns was selected from Double-A Midland on Monday and went 0 for 5 in three games with the A's in his Major League debut. He was batting .250 with a home run and 23 RBI in 91 games with Midland and ranked fourth in all of Minor League Baseball at the time of his promotion with 51 stolen bases. The 24-year-old switch hitter was caught stealing just five times and was successful in 91.1% of his attempts.

Elmore was acquired from the Chicago White Sox Feb. 27 and began the season on the disabled list with a strained left quad. He was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Sacramento June 16 and is batting .282 with no home runs and 18 RBI in 47 games with the River Cats.
