A's Option IF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's optioned infielder Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. The move clears a 25-man roster spot for Danny Valencia, who was acquired from Toronto yesterday.

Muncy was recalled from Nashville July 28 for his second stint with the A's this year. He appeared in one game, a start on Saturday against Cleveland when he went 1-for-3 with a double. Muncy is batting .207 with two home runs and six RBI in 35 games overall with Oakland.

Valencia was batting .296 with seven home runs and 29 RBI in 58 games with Toronto before he was designated for assignment Saturday. He started 27 games in left field, nine at third base, one in right field and one at first base. The 30-year-old right-handed hitter made his Major League debut with Minnesota in 2010 and has spent six seasons in the majors with the Twins (2010-12), Red Sox (2012), Orioles (2013), Royals (2014) and Blue Jays (2014-15). Valencia is a .266 career hitter with 44 home runs and 215 RBI in 479 games. He has spent most of his career as a third baseman, where he has appeared in 354 games, but also has 32 games in left field, 25 at first base, nine at second base and five in right field.
