A's Option RHP R.J. Alvarez to Triple-A Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's optioned right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. The move clears a roster spot for left-handed pitcher Felix Doubront, who reports to Oakland after being acquired from Toronto on Friday for cash considerations.

Alvarez has a 12.54 ERA and .333 opponents batting average in 11 relief appearances over three stints with the A's. He pitched once during his most recent stay that began last Tuesday, tossing one-third of an inning and allowing one hit on Thursday against Cleveland. Alvarez is 2-3 with five saves and a 4.13 ERA in 21 relief appearances with Nashville.

Doubront split the first four months of the season between Toronto and Triple-A Buffalo. He appeared in five games (four starts) with the Blue Jays, going 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA. In nine games (all starts) with Buffalo, he went 1-3 with a 2.44 ERA and struck out 43 batters in 48.0 innings. He allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts with Buffalo.
