A's Place IF Callaspo on 15-Day DL; Recall IF Parrino from Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have placed infielder Alberto Callaspo on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain and recalled infielder Andy Parrino from Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced today.

Callaspo was batting .234 with three home runs and 31 RBI in 83 games. He has started at least 10 games at four different positions, including 29 at designated hitter, 18 at second base, 16 at first base and 13 at third base. He is the first Athletic to start at least 10 games at four different positions since Jason Giambi in 1996. This is Callaspo's third career stint on the DL, his first as an Athletic.

Parrino is joining the A's for his second time this season. He was recalled for his first stint June 13 when Callaspo was placed on the paternity list, started two games (one at second base, one at shortstop) and was optioned June 16. Parrino was with the A's this spring before he was claimed off waivers by Texas March 3. He was reclaimed by the A's April 21. The Brockport, N.Y. native was batting .284 with seven home runs and 46 RBI in 81 games between Triple-A Round Rock and Sacramento, including .222 in 24 games following his June 16 option.
