The Oakland A's placed infielder Tyler Ladendorf on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist and selected infielder Chad Pinder from Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's transferred second baseman Jed Lowrie to the 60-day disabled list.
Pinder has spent the entire season at Nashville where he batted .258 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI in 107 games in his Triple-A debut. He is leading the Sounds in runs scored (72) and ranks second in hits (110) and home runs. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter has appeared in 98 games at shortstop and four at second base. Pinder was selected by the A's in the Competitive Balance Round B of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and is a .280 career hitter with 45 home runs and 200 RBI in 360 minor league games over four professional seasons. He is the third of the A's top four picks from the 2013 draft to reach the majors this year, joining Dillon Overton and Ryon Healy.
Ladendorf is batting .083 with one RBI in 45 games over four stints with the A's. He was recalled most recently on Aug. 2 and was 1-for-12 in 10 games.
The A's have now used the DL an Oakland-record 26 times, breaking the previous mark of 25 set in 2008. Oakland currently has a season-high 15 players on the DL, including 11 on the 60-day DL.
